Open to Upper Division students in Biological Sciences, RNR and Coast & Environment. The program will take place at the University of Alaska Campus north of Juneau, Alaska. The course fee is $4000-4200. The Marine Biology Travel Fund and Undergraduate Student Travel Funds have up to 18 scholarships available to help defray course fee. The deadline to apply is April 10, 2024.

Students take seven credit hours from the following courses:

  • Biol. 4177 – Neurobiology (3) 
  • Biol. 4262 – Marine Communities (3) 
  • Biol. 4263 – Marine Communities lab (1) 
  • Biol. 3999 – Undergrad Research (1-3)

Other Information

Marine Biology Travel Fund:

  • Marine Biology Travel Fund and Undergraduate Support Fund - Merit and Needs Based
    • Multiple Awards will be made this Spring and will be applied to your student fee account
    • Provide financial awards to eligible Junior or Senior students in their College at LSU with GPA of at least 3.0 and will be or are currently enrolled in courses to meet course requirements for Program 
  • Application Process
    • Merit based- A 500 word essay about how the award will benefit the student’s career 
    • Needs based- A 500 word essay about how the award will benefit the student’s career and how financial assistance will impact the students ability to attend the Program
    • A one page letter of support from a professor who is familiar with the student
    • A vita and transcript of all attempted work at LSU (an unofficial transcript will suffice). 
    • Deliver all application materials to the Biological Sciences Undergraduate Office, Room 101, Life Science Building room 101, attention of Ann Polito, Undergraduate Academic Area Coordinator, Department of Biological Science
  • The Biological Science Undergraduate Awards Committee will evaluate and rank the applications. The Departmental Chair will recommend the winning students to the Dean of the College of Science
  • Deadline for submission – The submission deadline is April 10, 2024
