Meet the K9s

Jazz

Jazz

My name is Jazz and I am a 3 ½ year old black lab. I was born in Alabama on Christmas Day, 2016. I am a certified explosives detection K9 and enjoy coming to work!

I have 3 certifications:

  • Vapor Wake, which includes detecting body-worn explosives
  • USPCA (United States Police Canine Association), including being the only K9 in my region to be certified in crowd screening
  • NORT (National Odor Recognition Test)

I love hugs and lots of petting and am part of the Community Outreach Division, so if you see me out with my favorite K9 handler, Officer K. Bass, stop and say hello!

Gigi

Gigi

My name is Gigi and I am a black Labrador. I was born in Alabama on October 17th, 2017.

I am trained and certified to find explosives. My primary job is crowd screening during large functions and sporting events at LSU.

I have 3 certifications:

  • Vapor Wake, which includes detecting body-worn explosives and detecting weapons
  • USPCA (United States Police Canine Association)
  • NORT (National Odor Recognition Test)

I really enjoy working and get super excited when it is time to go to work! I live with my K9 handler, Officer J. Fertitta. When I am not at work, I enjoy going on walks and chasing my ball!

Laika

Laika

My name is Laika and I am a 6 year old Belgian Malinois. I am certified in explosives detection. My K9 handler is Lieutenant T. Shows.

I enjoy running and playing, but most of all, I love working and searching for explosives-keeping the LSU community safe!

Tessa

Tessa

My name is Tessa and I am a 7 year old Belgian Mainois. I hold numerous certifications through USK9 and USPCA (United States Police Canine Association) for my work in explosives odor detection.

True to my Malinois nature, I am confident in my work, alert and full of life at all times. I am always eager to be at work, but I also enjoy my time at home where I can relax and unwind after a long day of protecting the LSU community.

At home, I enjoy walking around our neighborhood, playing catch, and working on obedience training with my K9 handler, Officer F. Currie. I also love taking naps with my best friend, Rudy, the maltipoo.
