LSU Giving Day 2022 is March 23, Raised Nearly $2.1 Million in 2021

4th Annual Virtual Event is Co-hosted by LSU Foundation, LSU Alumni Association and Tiger Athletic Foundation

BATON ROUGE – Wednesday, March 23, is LSU Giving Day 2022, a virtual fundraising event co-hosted by the LSU Foundation, LSU Alumni Association and Tiger Athletic Foundation online at geauxgive.lsu.edu. LSU Giving Day 2022, with an intergalactic theme of Geaux BEYOND!, prioritizes capital and infrastructure funds, excellence and innovation funds and scholarships.

Gifts of $5 or more will count toward the university’s goal of 4,500 donors giving by 11:59 p.m. Central on March 23. The 4,500 goal references the formation of the moon an estimated 4.5 billion years ago, in celebration of LSU’s upcoming milestone of becoming the first university in the world to put technology on the moon. LSU Giving Day 2022 is a campus-wide effort focused on raising funds that will position LSU students, faculty and staff to exceed expectations and limitations in pursuit of LSU President William F. Tate IV’s Scholarship First Agenda. Giving Day showcases opportunities to support each of LSU’s colleges and major academic units, LSU Alumni Association and Tiger Athletic Foundation – as well as to learn about the impact of philanthropy at LSU. Participating university units will share impact-focused content and progress updates via their social media accounts throughout the day. Progress in donor and dollar counts is available in real time on the Giving Day site, geauxgive.lsu.edu.

Alumni and friends have committed more than two dozen challenge gifts to encourage fellow Tigers to join them in giving. There are seven broad challenge gifts engaging all donors, regardless of which area of campus they choose to support:

• Geaux BEYOND! Challenge: When 4,500 Tigers have made a gift, LSU will unlock an additional $10,000 from Bradie James for the LSU Scholarship Fund.
• First Timers Donor Challenge: The 300th Tiger giving to LSU for the first time will unlock $10,000 from Scott Brakebill for the LSU Fund.
• First Timers Match Challenge: Every gift made by a Tiger giving to LSU for the first time will be matched dollar for dollar up to $10,000 by Bobby and Beth Reeves in support of the LSU Fund.
• 50 States Challenge: When at least one donor from every state has made a gift, LSU will unlock $5,000 from Jeff and Amie Springmeyer for the Interdisciplinary Science Building Fund.
• Midday Power Hour: The unit with the most donors between 12 and 1 p.m. will unlock $5,000 from Jeff and Amie Springmeyer for its top Giving Day priority fund.
• Evening Power Hour: The unit with the most donors between 7 and 8 p.m. will unlock $5,000 from Rhoman and Jolene Hardy for its top Giving Day priority fund.
• Student Power Hour: When 300 student and parent donors have given, LSU will unlock $3,000 from an anonymous Tiger for the LSU Scholarship Fund. When 350 have given, the university will unlock another $2,000.

At universities nationwide, Giving Day is an annual opportunity for students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends to join together in making donations to support the areas of the university that are most meaningful to them. The 2022 event is LSU’s fourth Giving Day. In 2019, donors contributed more than $845,000. In 2020, in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, despite shifting Giving Day’s focus to lifting spirits, donors topped $1 million given to LSU in one day. Last year, 4,205 donors gave nearly $2.1 million during LSU Giving Day 2021. LSU’s focus for Giving Day 2022 is reaching 4,500 donors contributing $5 or more.
