Get To Know Dean Eric Lau

Alumnus Returns to Baton Rouge

School of Music alumnus Eric Lau was named Dean of the College of Music & Dramatic Arts in July 2023. Lau graduated summa cum laude from LSU with a bachelor’s degree in music and was a member of The Golden Band from Tigerland. He later received Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees from Michigan State University.

LSU Associate Professor of Jazz Studies Doug Stone recently published "Stepping Stones," a book of techniques to help developing jazz musicians build their improvisation skills.

LSU is excited to welcome Weston Lewis back to LSU as Visiting Assistant Director of Bands for the upcoming year.

Recent School of Music doctoral graduate Gabriela Gómez Estévez, from the studio of Scott Terrell, has been named Assistant Professor and Director of Orchestras at Cornell University.

Graduate conducting students Emmanuel Rodriguez (Department of Bands) and Francis Ku (Orchestral Studies) have been selected as conducting fellows for the Reynolds Conducting Institute at the 2023 Midwest Clinic in Chicago.

LSU is pleased to welcome Stuart Breczinski as the new Visiting Assistant Professor of Oboe, beginning August 2023.

The LSU Symphonic Winds has been chosen as one of seven collegiate ensembles to perform at the College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA) Southern Division Conference, to be hosted at the University of Memphis in February 2024.

LSU Cares

LSU Cares is a university initiative dedicated to the well-being of students and promotion of a community that cares about each of its members. Using a CARE (Communicate, Assess, Refer, Educate) approach, staff review reports and provide appropriate resources in response. LSU Cares works with students to empower them to help students of concern and engage with victim support and advocacy resources.
