The Department of Bands is a storied component of the LSU School of Music, tracing its origins to the military traditions of the “Old War Skule” over a century ago. The Department encompasses five distinct performing groups and hosts a wide array of outreach events, camps, and workshops dedicated to the advancement of the performing arts.

Department News

Recent School of Music graduate Mikeila McQueston, from the studios of Mara Gibson and Lori Bade, has been named a semi-finalist in the 2023 American Prize in Composition for vocal chamber music, for her work "The Minotaur."

Four-time Grammy-nominated zydeco musician and LSU alumnus Sean Ardoin’s new album, “Full Circle,” which featured a historic collaboration with LSU’s Tiger Marching Band, has been nominated for a Grammy award for Best Regional Roots Music Album, the Recording Academy announced Tuesday.

We are excited to welcome award-winning new music ensemble Eighth Blackbird to LSU for a special concert, featuring composer Viet Cuong’s Vital Signs, among other works.
