The LSU Department of Bands supports three distinguished concert ensembles catering to all musical skill levels, each with a unique mission and direction.

Each ensemble presents one to three concert performances each semester. Membership in each group is by audition only. However, auditions are open to ALL majors at LSU. Explore this page to learn more about each ensemble, their upcoming performances, and the audition process.

 

Ensembles

The LSU Wind Ensemble is the premier concert organization of the LSU Department of Bands and is comprised of the finest music major and non-major wind, brass, and percussion students at LSU.

Unless otherwise noted below, all performances are held in the LSU Union Theater and start at 7:30 p.m. CST.

  • "Variations" – September 26

  • "Symphonic Dances" – November 29

  • "Passages" – February 20

  • "Celebration" – April 27

The LSU Symphonic Winds is an ensemble comprised of select undergraduate and graduate music majors in the School of Music, as well as qualified musicians from other academic disciplines.

The LSU Symphonic Band is the largest concert organization in the Department of Bands and is comprised of musicians from academic disciplines across the entire university, as well as music majors looking to refine their skills on secondary instruments.

Auditions

Wind and percussion students interested in participating in concert ensembles at LSU audition during specified time blocks at the start of each semester. Evening make-up opportunities are offered for students with class conflicts during the day.
