University Distinguished Faculty Awards

The Louisiana State University School of Information Studies (SIS) invites applicants for two faculty positions.

Through a federal grant and additional assistance from the University Lab School Foundation, three students from the University Laboratory School (ULS) were able to participate in the 65th annual London International Youth Science Forum (LIYSF) over the summer break. LIYSF is a 15-day STEM camp attended by 500 students from 70 countries. Seniors Ava Creel and Samuel Adjei along with class of 2023 graduate Anna Beth Henley were selected to represent the Lab School.

The LSU School of Library & Information Science announced today they will be changing their name to the LSU School of Information Studies. The change reflects the school's expansion into additional areas of education, including the Archival Studies and Records & Information Management Graduate Certificates. The school also offers an undergraduate minor in Digital Studies and two general education courses.

This year, the School of Information Studies (SIS) is celebrating two important milestones. The 2022-2023 academic year marks the 90th anniversary of the School's ALA accreditation and the 40th anniversary of SIS's move to Charles E. Coates Hall on LSU's campus. While SIS prepares to move to George Peabody Hall in 2023, it looks back at its long history at Louisiana State University.

LSU alumna, Janis Pardue Hill, PhD, a retired university professor and lifelong educator, has recently published a memoir about her father’s journey as a prisoner of war on the Bataan Death March that occurred during World War II. In Telling His Story: POW #1000, Pardue Hill, as primarily a compiler and editor, provides the details of his story.

The College of Human Sciences & Education's faculty honored as this year's recipients of university-wide distinguished faculty awards include: Senlin Chen, PhD | LSU Distinguished Faculty Award, School of Kinesiology; Jennifer Baumgartner, PhD | LSU Alumni Association Faculty Excellence Award, Lutrill & Pearl Payne School of Education; and Jennifer Scott, PhD | LSU Alumni Association Rising Faculty Research Award, School of Social Work

Senlin Chen, PhD has been awarded a research grant from the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) to study the behavioral and social determinants of health in Medicaid-eligible children. The LDH's Louisiana Medicaid Program has granted $335,000 to fund this project, with LSU contributing $335,000 in match funds over two years, resulting in a total of $670,000.

The LSU College of Human Sciences & Education named Laura Hensley Choate, currently the interim director of the LSU Lutrill & Pearl Payne School of Education, as the next director of the school. Choate will begin this role on April 1.
