I am a first-generation college student from a family of immigrants. College was not the main priority for my family; I could have easily gone through four years of undergrad to get my degree and to get out, but I had student affairs professionals that invested and mentored me in my academic and social life. Their time and investment inspired me to join the higher education field.

The time spent in college can be some of the most exciting times in a person’s life. Any role I can play in helping students succeed during their time brings me joy and energy and reminds me how impactful our work can truly be.

You will never be bored in college. Every year is a new and exciting adventure! -Joanne

Advice I don't leave home without

“Have a mind that is open to everything but is attached to nothing.”
This piece of advice has taught me to let it all come and go as it will. Enjoy it all, but never make your happiness or success dependent on an attachment to anything, any place, and particularly, any person.
