CLEAR Gulf

Quick Pitch

Gulf Coast residents at “ground zero” for climate risks, as well as opportunities for decarbonization.

  • New federal initiatives require significant participation by communities in planning for energy transition projects.
  • Low levels of understanding persist – along with mistrust in the science of climate risks and technology.

Thus, LSU and partners are needed to be trusted sources of objective technical knowledge.
  • We propose a comprehensive public engagement initiative for climate education using innovative tools and partnerships to enhance the resilience of the Gulf Coast.
  • We build on a solid base of existing research and innovative technological capabilities at our universities to provide accurate models of hypothetical decarbonization projects near their communities, how they would work and how they could be monitored.

Applying resilience theory, we will build a new community engagement framework using a bi-directional communication platform to share information and concerns about climate change and industrial decarbonization in Gulf Coast communities.
