Frequently Asked Questions

No. It's free to hold in-person and virtual interviews.

Yes, before your interview schedule is approved by our staff, a job posting must be attached. To hold interviews, employers must have an internship, co-op, or a full-time, degree-required position that is open or projected with certainty to open.

Employers may choose to conduct a Room Only, Open, or Pre-Select schedule type.

  • For Room Only & Open interview types: we recommend that the student application period begins 14 days or more before your interview date and end 5 days before your interview date.
    • For example:
      • Application start date: September 14th
      • Application end date: September 23rd
      • Interview date: September 28th.
  • For Pre-select interview types, we recommend this timeline: the student application period begins 21 days or more before your interview date and end 14 days before your interview date. The deadline for employers to make pre-selections should be 10 days before your interview date. Primary candidates should begin signing up for interview slots 9 days before your interview date. Alternate candidates should begin signing up for interview slots 7 days before your interview date. Interview slots sign up should end 5 days before your interview date.
    • For example:
      • Application start date: September 9th
      • Application end date: September 16th
      • Employer deadline to make pre-selections: September 20th
      • Primary signup start date: September 21st
      • Alternate signup start date: September 23rd
      • Interview date: September 28th.

Handshake will automatically set your interview timeline based on the recommendations above. If the deadlines fall on the weekend or a holiday, the staff will adjust them prior to approval. We prefer that you adhere to recommended timelines because it allows adequate time for students to apply and for employers to review applicants.

If you need to make a change to the timeline, please request the change ASAP by emailing Garnesha Beck – gbeck1@lsu.edu. If deadlines are missed, the employer is responsible for setting your own interview schedules with candidates and your interviews will be conducted as “Room Only” interviews.

Interviews are held from 8:15 a.m. – 4:15 p.m. The Recruitment Center opens to employers at 7:45 a.m. and closes at 4:30 p.m. All employers must leave the Recruitment Center at 4:30 p.m.

Employers may choose the length of each interview. The most popular is 30-minute interviews. Other options are 45-minute or 60-minute interviews.

  • 30-minute interviews: 13 interviews; 8:15 a.m.–4:15 p.m.; two 15-minute breaks; 60-minute lunch
  • 45-minute interviews: 9 interviews; 8:15 a.m.–4 p.m.; no breaks; 60-minute lunch
  • 60-minute interviews: 7 interviews; 8:15 a.m.–4 p.m.; no breaks; 60-minute lunch

For Room Only schedule types: The employer creates their own schedule so they can make changes at any time. The employer is required to contact the students to update them of any changes.

For Open and Pre-Select schedule types: Before the signup period begins, our staff can assist adjust your timeslots. To request a change, email Garnesha Beck, gbeck1@lsu.edu at least 24 hours before signups begin. After the signup start date, we cannot make changes to the timeslots. If an employer wants to make a change, the employer is responsible for contacting the students and confirming the change.

Interviews will be held in the LSU Olinde Career Center – Recruitment Center (RC), which is located on the 2nd floor of the LSU Student Union in Suite 258.
