LSU Department of Accounting Awarded Endowment Match from the Louisiana Board of Regents

June 30, 2021

LSU’s Department of Accounting was recently awarded a $400,000 endowment match by the Louisiana Board of Regents for the Marjory B. Ourso Distinguished Chair in Accounting Systems. Ourso was the wife of the late E. J. Ourso, benefactor of LSU’s E. J. Ourso College of Business. The $2,000,000 endowed chair was established by $1,200,000, donated by Mr. and Mrs. Ourso.

The chair holder will be an eminent scholar in the field of accounting and will provide leadership and guidance to the department’s academic programs, ensuring growth and revitalization of established faculty and assist with mentoring new faculty.

“This endowment will strengthen the Department of Accounting as a leader in accounting education, promote academic research in the accounting discipline, help augment essential change, and assist in providing excellent service to Louisiana and the accounting profession around the world,” commented Dr. Tommy Phillips, LSU Department of Accounting Chair.

The LSU Department of Accounting recognizes and thanks the Ourso family for the initial donation to the department, and extends gratitude to the Louisiana Board of Regents for their beneficence in matching a portion of the $2,000,000 endowment through its support fund. This kind of generosity improves accounting education and enhances the national reputation of LSU’s Department of Accounting, the E. J. Ourso College of Business, and Louisiana State University.

The Board of Regents is a state agency created by the 1974 Louisiana Constitution that coordinates all public higher education in Louisiana. The Board began operations January 1, 1975, succeeding the Coordinating Council for Higher Education. The 15 volunteer members of the Board of Regents are appointed by the Governor to six-year, overlapping terms, with at least one (but not more than two) Regents drawn from each of Louisiana’s seven Congressional districts. In addition, the Louisiana Council of Student Body Presidents appoints one student member as its representative on the board.
