LSU Students to Begin Moving Back to Campus Aug. 13

August 12, 2021

BATON ROUGE – LSU is planning for a safe, smooth and welcoming move-in experience for incoming students starting Aug. 13, with assigned arrival times over several days for the more than 8,000 students moving onto campus from Aug. 13-22.

First-year students in residence halls move in Aug. 13-15, while returning students living in on-campus apartments are scheduled to move in Aug. 13-22.

Students start their move-in experience at the move-in staging area on River Road (Levee Lot 412 on River Road) at their designated arrival time with no more than two vehicles. Upon arriving to the staging area, students will be welcomed by university staff volunteers at welcome tents where they will get their residence hall hang tag, complete campus entry protocols and start the drive through campus to their new homes. Students and guests must get a wristband at the River Road staging area for entry into the residence halls and apartments.

“It's my first move-in at LSU, and I can feel the excitement in the air,” said LSU Residential Life Executive Director Pete Trentacoste. “Our team is excited about opening two new residence halls, welcoming 7,000 first-year students to LSU, and applying the lessons learned from the last year and a half into this year’s student experience. We can’t wait to welcome students back to campus, and we’re confident in the procedures and community standards we have put in place to help students be safe and well.”

Move-in is part of LSU Welcome Week, the final phase of orientation to LSU. This exciting event takes place right before the semester begins so that students can be completely comfortable and prepared to start their experience at LSU.

Residential Life offers living-learning environments for first-year students in traditional residence halls and nine residential colleges – Agriculture, Business, Engineering, Mass Communication, Science, Human Sciences & Education, Humanities & Social Sciences, Visual & Performing Arts and the Honors House. Upperclassmen live in one of three apartment complexes on campus, including a new Honors Living Learning Community launching this fall in East Campus Apartments. Year after year student living on campus as first-year students have higher GPAs, higher graduation rates, and higher retention to second year rates than their off-campus peers.

Media Note:

Media wishing to attend move in should RSVP with Ernie Ballard in LSU Media Relations at eballa1@lsu.edu or 225-978-8277. This year, media are asked to stay outside of residence halls and not enter them due the limited number of people allowed inside buildings as a safety measure. In addition, media members should wear face coverings when not more than six feet from others. The staging area for move in Aug. 13-15 is located at Lot 412 on River Road. Friday starts at noon, and Saturday and Sunday start at 8 am.  Media are welcomed to get photos and footage at the staging area and outside of the residential communities.
