BATON ROUGE—LSU Manship School of Mass Communication faculty members Tina M. Harris and Asha S. Winfield were recognized as University Faculty Award recipients by LSU Academic Affairs in spring 2023. These elite awards recognize faculty accomplishments and showcase superb teaching, research and service at LSU.

Manship-Maynard Race, Media, and Cultural Literacy Endowed Chair Tina M. Harris received the Faculty Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Mentoring Award. This honor highlights the quality and dimension of Harris’ active work in the promotion of diversity and inclusion in the LSU community. In September 2022, the National Communication Association (NCA) named Harris a recipient of its Distinguished Scholar Award for her lifetime of scholarly achievement in the field of human communication. Additionally, the Organization for the Study of Communication, Language and Gender selected Harris as its 2022 Feminist Teacher-Mentor Awardee.

Asha S. Winfield, 2023 LSU Alumni Association Rising Faculty Research Award RecipientLSU University Relations

Assistant Professor Asha S. Winfield received the LSU Alumni Association Rising Faculty Research Award. This honor recognizes faculty at the rank of assistant professor who have outstanding records of scholarship and published research. In 2022, Winfield was selected as one of 41 distinguished faculty who earned the Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Award for her project, “A Case for Interdisciplinary Collaborations to Improve Social Determinants of Health: Documenting the Impacts of COVID-19 on Black Communities.” Additionally, NCA honored Winfield with the Gerald R. Miller Outstanding Dissertation Award in 2022.
