BATON ROUGE, LA – The College of Engineering named its McLaughlin Award medalist during the Spring 2023 Commencement Ceremony, and the recipient for this semester was Alexis Nibert, a petroleum engineering major from Johnstown, Penn.

Nibert is the daughter of Heather and Joseph Nibert and attended Westmont Hilltop High School before coming to LSU.

During her academic career, Nibert earned various awards and honors, including making the LSU President’s List each semester, earning several petroleum engineering scholarships, and being a member of the Chevron Leadership Academy. She also held three undergraduate research positions, studying gas bubble migration, analyzing and interpreting well logs, and looking at the effects of microporosity on particle transport.

“The people I’ve met have had the biggest influence on my life,” Nibert said. “One of the greatest experiences I’ve had was living with a totally random roommate in the dorms my freshman year. She and I are best friends who still live together today. I’ve been beyond blessed with lifelong friendships with people I’ve met at LSU; my friends, my family, and roommates have pushed me to the best version of myself. Also, I would never have made it without amazing classmates, who are the only reason I made it through these past four years.”

Nibert next plans to move to Midland, Texas, to work for Diamondback Energy, an oil and gas operator. She previously interned with the company and will begin full-time work in a two-year rotational program, switching job roles every six months.
