Alan Sikes received his MFA in Theatre Directing from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and his Ph.D. in Theatre Historiography from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. He researches the links between performance and politics throughout the modern era. He is the author of Representation and Identity from Versailles to the Present: The Performing Subject, published by Palgrave Press. His essays have also appeared in "Theatre Journal," "Theatre Topics," "The Journal of Dramatic Theory and Criticism," "Studies in Eighteenth Century Culture," and the anthologies "Querying Difference in Theatre History" and "Theatre Historiography: Critical Questions."
