Announcing Dr. Thomas Greckhamer as Chair of the Rucks Department of Management

BATON ROUGE, La.  ­– Thomas Greckhamer, a renowned scholar in strategic management, will serve as the next chair of the Rucks Department of Management in the LSU E. J. Ourso College of Business.

A native of Austria, Greckhamer first joined the department in 2005. He was promoted to full professor in 2017, awarded the William W. Rucks IV Endowed Chair in 2022, and has taught at all levels of study at LSU. Greckhamer also previously served as the director of the PhD in management program from 2017 to 2025 and as both associate chair and chair of the university’s graduate council from 2022 to 2024.

“It is an honor to be appointed as chair of the Rucks Department of Management, as I have a longstanding commitment to the research and teaching mission of our department,” Greckhamer said. “I look forward to serving our department’s dedicated faculty, staff, and graduate students, and to aligning our group’s efforts with the mission of the E. J. Ourso College of Business.”

Greckhamer's research investigates the interplay between strategy and firm performance, executive compensation, and organizational pay dispersion. His work has been featured in top journals such as Strategic Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, and Journal of Management, among others. Additionally, he serves as an associate editor for Organizational Research Methods and on several editorial boards, while also hosting professional development workshops for researchers and peer faculty at annual meetings of the Academy of Management (AoM), the Southern Academy of Management, and the Academy of International Business.

Greckhamer holds dual master’s degrees in business administration and international business from Johannes Kepler University (Linz) and a PhD in Management from the University of Florida.
