The American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) awarded William “Bill” Balhoff CPA/CFF, CGMA, with the 2022 AICPA Gold Medal Award of Distinction at the fall meeting of AICPA’s governing council. The Gold Medal is the highest honor granted by the AICPA. Since 1944, it has been bestowed upon CPAs whose influence on the accounting profession proved especially notable.

“It is great to see Bill receive the AICPA’s Gold Medal of Distinction. He has done so many things for the profession and is one of the most energetic people that I know. Also, if you spend time around Bill, you will find that he is a person with irreproachable ethics.  As a graduate of our accounting program, he has always made LSU proud,” said Thomas Phillips, Department of Accounting Chair and Thomas H. Daigre Endowed Chair.

Balhoff’s volunteer positions include AICPA board of directors’ chair and AICPA Council member. He is a former member of the Private Companies Practice Section (PCPS) Peer Review Committee and former chairman of the PCPS Executive Committee. At the state level, Balhoff served as chairman and leadership team member for the Society of Louisiana Certified Public Accountants (LCPA) and was a member of the board of directors and past president of LCPA’s Baton Rouge Chapter.

In addition, Balhoff currently serves on the LSU E. J. Ourso College of Business Dean’s Advisory Council (DAC), is a former DAC president, and was a 2013 E. J. Ourso College of Business Hall of Distinction inductee. He graduated from the Ourso College in 1976 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting.

Currently, Balhoff is a director at Postlethwaite & Netterville, APAC (P&N) in Baton Rouge and has been instrumental in helping P&N grow into the largest Louisiana-based accounting firm. He was named among the "Top 100 Most Influential People" in the accounting profession by both Accounting Today and CPA Magazine and served as a member of the Financial Accounting Standards Advisory Council. Balhoff is an international speaker on numerous topics, including professional standards updates and managing practices.
