About University College
University College is dedicated to helping students achieve excellence at LSU both academically and personally. We believe that a strong foundation of support is essential for success, especially as students begin their college journey.
Since its founding in 1933 as “Lower Division,” University College has been the gateway for most incoming freshmen at LSU. Today, it continues to serve first-year, transfer, and returning students who are preparing to transition into one of LSU’s senior colleges or professional healthcare programs.
Each fall, University College welcomes all incoming freshmen except those directly admitted to the College of Art & Design and the College of Music & Dramatic Arts. We also support continuing students who are working toward senior college admission requirements.
Allied Health and Pre-Nursing Students
Many students pursuing careers in allied health or nursing begin at LSU with plans to continue their studies at one of the LSU Health Sciences Center campuses or at other institutions offering degrees in these fields. University College provides specialized academic advising and guidance to help these students prepare for the selective admission process into professional programs.
Undecided Students
Exploring your options is an exciting part of your LSU journey. University College supports undecided students by providing individualized advising, major and career exploration, and academic planning. Whether you're narrowing your interests or discovering new possibilities, we'll help you identify a path that fits your goals while keeping you on track toward admission into your senior college.
