Four University Laboratory School Athletes to Sign with Colleges

BATON ROUGE - Four University Laboratory School athletes will sign with colleges Tuesday, April 18, at 12:45 p.m. in the school’s Pennington McKernan Gymnasium. 
 
Michael Guruli, a two-sport student athlete at U-High (football and basketball) will sign with Rhodes College’s Lynx Football team. Team captain and 1st team all-district tight end, Guruli, maintained a 4.2 grade point average, earning LHSAA all-academic honors, while participating and excelling in year-round sports. 
 
Volleyball player, 
Elise Lathon, will sign with Dillard University’s Bleu Devils. Lathon has been on the high school varsity volleyball team since 8th grade and plays in the setter or opposite hitter position. In her high school career, Lathon was team captain, a 4-year letterman, has been named District MVP and earned All-metro, 7-3A All-District honorable mention.

 
Golfer Cole Jones will sign with Hendrix College. Jones was our highest-ranked finisher at the Palmetto High School Championship, a tournament attended by teams from 20 states and two countries. While at the tournament, Jones shot his career low round of 72. In the past few years, Jones has improved tremendously and become a necessary part of our golf team. He reduced his scoring average by 3.4 shots since last year, his driving distance has increased by 14 yards and his driving accuracy has improved by 15%.  
 
Blayton Bernard is signing with the University of South Alabama and will become a part of their track and cross-country team.  In 2022, Bernard was named state champion in the boys’ individual state division in cross country and was a part of the winning boys’ 4x800M relay championship track team in 2023.
