LSU Department of Petroleum Engineering Receives Major Software Donation
November 14, 2025
The LSU Department of Petroleum Engineering is thrilled to announce a significant software donation from PE Limited, valued at $3,816,620.08. This generous contribution will enhance our students' educational experience and strengthen our research capabilities in petroleum engineering.
PE Limited, also known as Petex, has been a pioneer in oil and gas field modeling since 1990. The company has revolutionized how oil companies worldwide approach complex development decisions and production problems through integrated modeling and digitalization technologies. With over three decades of expertise, PE Limited stands at the forefront of the energy industry's technological advancement.
This substantial donation will provide our students and faculty with access to industry-leading software tools that are actively used by major oil companies globally. The sophisticated modeling capabilities will enable our students to gain hands-on experience with the same technologies they'll encounter in their professional careers, ensuring they graduate with relevant, marketable skills.
"This donation represents a tremendous investment in our program and our students," said Petroleum Engineering Chair, David Schechter. "Access to PE Limited's advanced software platforms will enhance our curriculum and give our students a competitive edge as they enter the workforce."
The department is particularly excited about the opportunities this partnership creates for research collaboration and student projects. As the energy industry continues to evolve, particularly in energy transition technologies, this donation positions LSU's petroleum engineering students to be leaders in the field's future.
