About Us

The Office of External Relations focuses on building strong relationships and broad understanding of the many ways the College of Engineering is Improving Lives. Transforming Louisiana. Changing the World. From the management of the college’s communications strategies and social media to maintaining the college’s brand and fostering relationships with alumni, industries and communities, the Office of External Relations serves the college and its eight departments in a variety of ways. 

Specifically, the Office of External Relations integrates the efforts of several functional areas for the purpose of developing a comprehensive program to strengthen our position nationally. Within this scope, we provide strategic and tactical leadership for all aspects of external relations and marketing that support the public relations, student recruitment, fundraising, research, community relations, alumni relations, and government relations objectives of the college. Alumni and External Relations connects the college with the many constituents we serve through outreach, engagement, and advocacy activities. Working closely with departments and other service units in the college, the Alumni and External Relations Office fosters strong relationships by providing resources and value-added services for our alumni, donors, students, corporate partners and nonprofit agencies in the community. Specific services include stewardship, event planning, and scholarship/professorship management.

Communications serves as a liaison between the college, the news media and the general public in a continuous effort to keep LSU’s College of Engineering constituents and communities informed, educated, and engaged. Communications provides news and public information services on behalf of the college, manages web and broadcast communications, and generates executive communication for the Dean. Additionally, the office serves the interests of departments, the Office of Student Services and Diversity Initiatives and all ENG faculty, staff and students in a number of ways, including working to place stories in the mass media, facilitating the design of department print pieces and electronic mailings, strategically featuring faculty work in prominent publications, and managing the college’s Web site and social media. Specific services including media relations, robust internal communications, marketing, graphic design, brand development and management.

Corporate Relations and Economic Development seeks to foster relationships with industry and economic development agencies that promote the strategic value of translational research to the overall economic vitality of the state. Starting first with the engineering faculty, the office promotes promising research by assisting in the commercialization process and encouraging partnerships with industry. Second, the office responds to the economic development initiatives of the state by offering innovative workforce solutions for the industry and agencies for which we partner with. Specific responsibilities include: faculty development as it relates to commercialization and IP issues and industry engagement through outreach, communication, and research partnerships.

Strategic Partnerships is intent on nurturing partnerships created with industry and local, state, and federal agencies to fundamentally advance the economic vitality of the state. Specifically, this position works to meet the growing workforce needs of the state through the implementation of innovative programs and partnerships that ultimately recruit, retain, and graduate students in high demand degree programs, in particular the Computer Science program, within the College of Engineering. Key tracks of responsibility include: recruiting, student success, and establishing statewide partnerships.

The College of Engineering Recruiting Office seeks to introduce prospective students to the college by conducting high school visits, hosting onsite tours, facilitating the Preview LSU and Academic Showcase events, and conducting follow up VIP experiences.
