LSU Engineering Connects Construction, Engineering, and AI Experts

October 06, 2026

Building For AI, Building With AI, October 14-16On Oct. 14-16, LSU’s College of Engineering will convene experts in construction management, industrial engineering, and AI and digital twin technologies to spark new ideas and forge new connections that improve how America builds.

Next-generation construction tools, technologies, materials, and processes will be the hallmark of the college’s new School of Construction.

Approved by the Louisiana Board of Regents in February, the new school will integrate construction management with computer science, robotics, sensing and automation, advanced materials, and data science to deliver faster, safer, and more sustainable infrastructure. The new school will position LSU Engineering and LSU as a national proving ground for construction innovation.

“At LSU Engineering, we have all the ingredients to accelerate progress in construction in every sector – industrial, commercial, and residential,” said LSU Engineering Dean Vicki Colvin. “This event is aimed at bringing together our faculty and students with industry leaders, including from Anthropic, to brainstorm solutions to real-world problems in construction management.”

Three events are planned for AI in Construction Week:

  • Industrialized Construction Mini-Symposium | Wednesday, Oct. 14 | 12 noon - 3 pm | Room 1340, Patrick F. Taylor Hall | LSU College of Engineering | 3304 S Quad Drive, Baton Rouge. Faculty, staff, and students can register for the symposium here.
  • Accelerated Data Center Delivery Workshop | Thursday, Oct. 15 | 9 am - 5 pm | LSU Foundation | 3796 Nicholson Drive, Baton Rouge. The first official event convened by the LSU School of Construction, the workshop brings together tech executives, government officials, contractors, and researchers to discuss data center planning and construction. Seating limited. Industry representatives can register here, while academic researchers from across Louisiana can register here.
  • Claude Code Workshop | Friday, Oct. 16 | 9 am - 12 noon | First floor, Patrick F. Taylor Hall | LSU College of Engineering | 3304 S Quad Drive, Baton Rouge.

Representatives from Anthropic and their Claude Code team will work show faculty, industry representatives, and students how to build tools with Claude, Anthropic’s AI assistant, that can improve engineering and construction workflows. This event is now full, and registration has closed.

Participants can get a variety of benefits from attending AI in Construction Week.

Faculty can learn about industry needs and ways to partner with company leaders on research and workforce development projects. Industry executives can meet faculty and students, including from LSU Engineering’s Applied Intelligence Lab team, who can help solve their business challenges. Students can meet industry leaders – potential mentors and sources of internships and jobs.

“With the right tools, and the right minds using them, we can meet construction challenges and seize opportunities to build better, and faster, whether it’s new factories, power plants, or distribution centers,” said Charles Berryman, PhD, professor and chair of LSU’S Bert S. Turner Department of Construction Management.
