Schedule an Appointment with an Academic Coach
Baton Rouge, La March 1, 2018 - Academic Coaching provides a personalized one-on-one experience to students who seek help in a variety of areas. Coaching can help students understand how they learn best, organize and manage time, build new study skills, reduce test anxiety and prepare for exams.
Individual sessions are free, private and available by appointment in LSU’s Center for Academic Success.
Academic Coaching helps students use tools that are based on cognitive science research, using tools like the Study Cycle, Bloom’s Taxonomy and Focused Study Sessions.
Music education freshman, Summer Hayes, made an appointment with an Academic Coach her first semester at LSU after struggling in three of her classes.
“It was difficult for me to catch on to the material we were learning because most students who come to the school of music have had experience with their instrument. My instrument is my voice, but I had never taken a choir or theory class.”
Hayes’ Academic Coach taught her ways to prioritize her time and overcome anxiety using skills and techniques tailored to her.
“Using the skills she suggested has helped me finish the semester with five A and three B letter grades,” Hayes said.
Academic Coaching data shows 94 percent of students said they better understand how to balance their time between work, classes, study and leisure after meeting with an Academic Coach. In addition, 86 percent of students better understand how to prepare for class or lecture after a session.
