Marwa Hassan, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in LSU’s College of Engineering, has been elected to the National Academy of Construction (NAC) Class of 2026, one of the highest professional honors in the construction industry.

Founded in 1999, the National Academy of Construction recognizes industry leaders who have made outstanding, lifelong contributions to the advancement of construction through innovation, leadership, education, technology, safety, and industry service. Election to the Academy is reserved for individuals whose achievements have significantly improved the effectiveness of the construction industry and who are recognized by their peers as leaders in their field.

Hassan was selected for her groundbreaking work as an academic leader and researcher focused on sustainable infrastructure materials, life-cycle assessment, and sustainable construction practices. The Academy specifically cited her pioneering efforts to educate future construction professionals and advance sustainable approaches to infrastructure development.

"Being elected to the National Academy of Construction is a tremendous honor," Hassan said. "I am grateful to my colleagues and peers for this recognition and proud to represent LSU and the College of Engineering. This honor reflects the dedication of the many students, faculty, researchers, and industry partners who have contributed to our work advancing sustainable infrastructure and construction education."

Hassan serves as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the LSU College of Engineering, CETF Distinguished Professor, Jacobs Professor of Excellence, and Director of the Tran-SET Regional University Transportation Center. Since joining LSU in 2007, she has established an internationally recognized research program focused on advanced sustainable materials, nanotechnology applications in construction, life-cycle assessment, building energy performance, solar engineering integration, and construction simulation.
