Tiger Teacher Corps

What is Tiger Teacher Corps?

The Tiger Teacher Corps (TTC) is a high-impact initiative representing LSU’s bold commitment to advancing the teacher profession in Louisiana and beyond. As a declared major in a teacher preparation program, students join a group recognized for their passion, potential, and promise as the next generation of educators and changemakers. This initiative is designed to give students support all four years of their college journey.

All teacher education students at LSU are invited to participate in the Tiger Teacher Corps. This includes freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors. You do not have to be a student in the School of Education to participate.

About the Program

The Tiger Teacher Corps offers a suite of unique opportunities to support your success and growth as a future educator, including cohort-based learning experiences that foster community, collaboration, and shared purpose, as well as:

  • Mentorship from experienced education professionals
  • Early learning experiences and observations in local schools—starting your very first semester
  • Stipends and scholarships to ease your financial path
  • Shared residential living-learning spaces for peer connection and support
  • PRAXIS exam support and career preparation resources
  • Personal advising from an experienced, designated counselor in your college
  • A specialized first-year experience course for education majors, HSE 1000, designed to connect you with people, access resources, and build your foundation as an educator from day one (only for first-year students)
  • Opportunities for tutoring and mentoring, both of which build educational experience, earn income during your time at LSU, and strengthen your resume

FAQs

Tiger Teacher Corps is an initiative of the College of Human Sciences & Education for all future teachers, regardless of home college or department. All students who plan to teach are welcome to the programs and services of TTC. Your Academic Home in the LSU’s student information system may say University College (UC); however, as a member of TTC you have access to our advising team and resources in the college.

You do not need to change your major or declare a program in CHSE to take part in Tiger Teacher Corps. For example, if you are planning to be in the College of Music & Dramatic Arts to pursue the Bachelor of Music Education, you will automatically be notified of TTC and invited to meetings, programs, and introductory courses.

We recommend the residential college for the College of Human Sciences & Education - Cypress Hall. Residential colleges create more intimate and immediate communities inside the larger LSU campus, are steps away from where your courses are housed, and also include an in-house counselor and rector who both teach and advise in the college.

Incoming freshmen will have a specialized first-year experience course for education majors (one credit hour), HSE 1000 in the fall, designed to build your foundation as an educator from day one. This courses will connect you with faculty and staff to support your journey, introduce and explain the Tiger Teacher Corps program, and allow you to connect with a group of like-minded peers at LSU.
