After the success of the inaugural event last March, the second annual TEDxLSU will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2014. The popular event, championed by LSU’s Communication across the Curriculum, will return to LSU’s campus in the Claude L. Shaver Theatre in the College of Music and Dramatic Arts from 1-5 p.m.

The theme for the 2014 event is enact, so Talks will focus on dynamic social, civic and commercial efforts. Fifteen visionary and innovative thinkers from the area will give the “talk of their life” to ultimately inspire positive action and change in our community and its citizens. From teachers to a prison reform activist to healers to a former gang member, TEDxLSU will showcase a diverse group of change agents who are making our community a better place.

One of our very own Distinguished Communicator candidates, Courtney Brandabur, was selected as a student speaker. Courtney, a 21-year-old junior studying psychology, struggled with negative body image.  She knew other girls were suffering from the same issues and wanted to help.  As founder of Girl Warrior, a local organization formed to foster body positivity and self-empowerment among women, Courtney is focused on enacting the power of idea.

Tickets are on sale now and LSU students and faculty can access a special discounted rate until Friday, February 14, 2014. Check out the website, www.tedxlsu.com, to learn more about the speakers and to purchase your ticket.
