Acting Assistant Director
Marty Horn joined the Louisiana Geological Survey as an assistant professor of research in January 2007. He was previously employed at LSU as an instructor in the LSU Department of Geology and Geophysics and as Geology Field Camp director. Dr. Horn earned a B.S. in Geophysics at the University of Oklahoma in 1982, an M.S. in Geology at the Arizona State University in 1986, and a Ph.D. in Mathematical Sciences & Geology at the University of Texas at Arlington in 1996. Since then he has taught courses in Physical Geology, Historical Geology, Mineralogy, Petrology, Volcanology, and Field Geology. As a member of LGS research faculty, his research topics have included Louisiana subsurface stratigraphy, surface geology mapping, ground water chemistry, stream hydrology, and near surface geophysical techniques. His current research focuses on geophysical techniques to resolve near-surface geological relationships as well as buried anthropogenic features such as pipelines, archaeological features, and cemetery and criminal graves.
