Vision & Mission

Vision Statement

The Division of Computer Science and Engineering believes that computer science is a rapidly evolving discipline directly or indirectly affecting many other disciplines including science and engineering, arts, business, etc. It is important that we contribute to computer science in a way that our faculty and students can devote themselves to take the maximal advantage of modern computer science to solve a wide range of complex scientific, technological and social problems. The division continues promoting innovative research and education programs in the core computer science as well as multidisciplinary application areas. Our programs focus on several areas related to theoretical foundations, systems and architecture, databases and data analytics, software, computational science, and digital media. By selecting these contemporary and still maturing areas that also complement the skills of existing division faculty based on the funding and also achieving critical mass through new hires in these areas will have an immediate impact on the division's competitiveness for more federal funding and ability to achieve national prominence.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Division of Computer Science and Engineering is to achieve national prominence by providing outstanding education and research training to our undergraduate and graduate students for their productive careers in industry, academia, and government. We strive for excellence in research, teaching and service covering the fundamental as well as applied aspects of computer science. Our faculty will establish nationally and internationally recognized research programs, including those of interdisciplinary nature, and actively engage our students in the research to provide broad educational and research experiences for them both in and out of the classroom. We will help our students develop the skills to solve the complex technological problems of modern society and also provide a framework for promoting collaborative and multidisciplinary activities.
