Sunyoung Park Named One of Six LSU Rainmakers for Research Excellence and Creative Activity

Sunyoung Park, PhD, Associate Professor in the School of Leadership & Human Resource Development, is one of six LSU faculty members named a Rainmaker for Research and Creative Activity. Rainmakers are faculty members who balance their teaching and research responsibilities while extending the impact of their work to the world beyond academia.

Dr. Park received the Rainmaker Award for the Mid-Career Scholar in the area of Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences & Behavioral Sciences category. In partnership with Campus Federal Credit Union, the LSU Office of Research and Economic Development (ORED) awards six Rainmakers each year to faculty who demonstrate outstanding research, scholarship, and creative activity for their respective rank and discipline. The award recognizes both sustained and continuing work, as well as the impact that work has had on faculty members, their department, and their respective academic community.

Dr. Park is an associate professor and Jones S. Davis Distinguished Professor in the LSU School of Leadership & Human Resource Development. She received her PhD from the University of Minnesota in Human Resource Development (HRD). Her research interests concern organizational culture and behavior, learning and performance in the workplace, leadership, and research trends in HRD and related fields. Dr. Park’s teaching focuses on the fields of instructional design, performance analysis, training and development, and research methods.

Sunyoung Park, Ph.D., Associate Professor

Dr. Park served as a post-doctoral research fellow at Indiana University, Bloomington. She has received several research awards including a 2022 The Elwood F. Holton III Research Excellence Award from Human Resource Development Review, a 2019 Awards for Excellence: Outstanding Paper Award from Journal of Knowledge Management  and Cutting Edge Awards at the 2011, 2014, 2016, and 2023 AHRD International Research Conference in the Americas.  She also received the LSU Alumni Association Rising Faculty Research Award (2017), LSU Distinguished Faculty Award (2020), and LSU Tiger Athletic Foundation Undergraduate Teaching Award (2020).

image of parkOriginally from Republic of Korea, Dr. Park has spent the last 10 years working with clients in government, non-profit organizations, schools, and companies. As a project manager and team leader, she has extensive experience in planning, designing, and implementing diverse educational programs in both face-to-face and online environments.

Dr. Park received her PhD from the University of Minnesota in Human Resource Development (HRD). Her teaching focuses on the fields of instructional design, performance analysis, training and development, and research methods.

Rainmaker criteria include but are not limited to the following: publication in a high-impact journal(s); a highly cited work; external awards; invited presentations at national and international meetings; high journal publication productivity; critically acclaimed book publication(s), performance(s), exhibit(s) or theatrical production(s); high grant productivity and for more senior candidates, outstanding citation records and high-impact invited presentations at national and international meetings.
