Our Expertise

The Diagnostic Imaging service is dedicated to providing state of the art imaging diagnostics by board-certified radiologists at the LSU VTH. Radiologists and radiology technologists support the service, as well as residents. The hospital has on site advanced imaging in all modalities that allows us to investigate all organ systems.

The LSU VTH has a fully integrated Picture Archive and Communication System (PACS). This allows clinicians to view images and reports from any computer throughout the hospital, minutes after they are acquired.

Teleradiology Service for Veterinarians

The LSU Radiologists offer a teleradiology service to assist with interpretation of any type of imaging study: radiographs, ultrasound, CT, or MRI. We will also compare imaging studies that have occurred on different dates to assist with determining resolution or progression of disease.

Submissions

We accept any image on plain film, CD/DVD, and digital DICOM submissions.

Veterinarians with digital capabilities can send their images effortlessly to the LSU Vet Med Radiology Reading Service through our teleradiology website (to be configured just call 1-866-669-8090 or email info@dvminsight.net – this email is for configuration only). Configuration is free.

Veterinarians with plain film or CD/DVDs can download the Teleradiology form for submission with the study for interpretation.

Service Hours

Reports are generated the same day during business hours (8 a.m. – 5 p.m.) on weekdays. Reports are generated for STAT case submissions within the hour during our operating hours.

Reports

Written reports are emailed to the address provided. We can also discuss findings on select cases over the phone as requested (call 225-578-9506).

Reports are generated within 48 h on weekdays (M - F). If cases are submitted Friday after 4 pm - Monday at 8 am, reports will be generated by Tuesday. Reports are generated for STAT radiographic case submissions within 2 hours during the business hours of 8 am - 4:00 pm on weekdays. Reports are generated for STAT CT/MRI/US/Contrast submissions by the end of the following day between 8 am - 4:00 pm on weekdays. Ultrasound fee includes interpretation of 30 still images and up to 6 clips that are less than 2 minutes in length. An additional $10 fee will be charged for each additional clip or set of 10 images.

Anatomical Sites

Fees are based on number of sites in the submission, e.g., a thorax and abdomen, views obtained on separate time points (days or hours apart), or stifle plus pelvis are each considered 2 sites. A single site on an appendicular skeleton study should be collimated to a long bone with its proximal and distal joint included or a joint with a portion of adjacent long bones included. All sites on submitted images sent will be reported and therefore charged due to ethical requirements for reporting findings on all images available.

What to Expect

We work with other LSU VTH services to provide diagnostic imaging to aid in diagnosis and treatment. In some cases, animals may need to be sedated or anesthesized for a procedure.
