LSU School of Veterinary Medicine conferred two advanced degrees

The LSU School of Veterinary Medicine conferred two advanced degrees on May 19, 2025. Oliver A. Garden, BVetMed, Ph.D., DACVIM, LSU Vet Med dean, welcomed the graduates and guests. Tammy Dugas, Ph.D., associate dean for research and graduate education, introduced the graduates and asked their mentors to say a few words about their educational journeys. Mark Mitchell, DVM, Ph.D. (LSU 2001), DECZM, professor of zoological medicine, conferred the degrees on behalf of the LSU Graduate School.

MASTER OF SCIENCE

Tithipong Plangsangmas, DVM, MS, from Bangkok, Thailand, received his MS in Biomedical and Veterinary Medical Sciences in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences. His thesis was entitled “Mycoplasma pogonae in captive central bearded dragons (Pogona vitticeps): Pathology, diagnosis, and treatments.” His major advisor was Javier Nevarez, DVM, Ph.D. (LSU 2001, 2007), DACZM, DECZM, professor of zoological medicine. Dr. Tithipong will join the faculty of a veterinary school in Thailand.

Nadia Richmond, DVM (LSU 2020), from Little Rock, Ark., received her MS in Biomedical and Veterinary Medical Sciences in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences. Her thesis was entitled “Proteomic Comparison of Canine Gallbladder Versus Hepatic Neuroendocrine Neoplasms.” Her major advisor was Andrea Johnston, DVM, DACVIM, associate professor of small animal internal medicine. Dr. Richmond joined the faculty of LSU Vet Med as an assistant professor of clinical pathology in August 2024.
