LSU closed Jan. 16 due to severe winter weather
January 15, 2024
LSU has decided to close campus January 16 due to severe winter weather. LSU Vet Med is adjusting accordingly. Please review the message below.
DVM Classes
LSU will be closed Tuesday, January 16, due to the forecast of winter weather and icy conditions. LSU Vet Med will hold all DVM lectures virtually. Faculty will post links to lectures in Moodle. All lectures will be recorded. Updated schedules will be sent out, as needed in Years 1 and 3. LSU classes and activities scheduled for Tuesday are cancelled, except for courses in the LSU Online program, which will proceed as scheduled.
Graduate Student Classes
All LSU classes scheduled for Tuesday are cancelled, except for courses in the LSU Online program, which will proceed as scheduled.
LSU VTH
The LSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital is activating ride-out teams today, January 15, due to expected precipitation and road and bridge closures. Ride-out teams should report to the hospital by 7 p.m. January 15. The road conditions and road closures are too uncertain at this time to determine how long the ride-out team will be active and when the hospital can return to normal operations. Please check in with your respective services and keep a watch out for VTH and LSU Vet Med messages.
LSU Diagnostics (LADDL)
LSU Diagnostics (LADDL) will be closed January 16.
Essential Employees
Essential employees should check with their supervisors about whether they should report to campus on Tuesday. The Office of Human Resource Management will send instructions for time entry for the closure to all timekeepers in a follow-up email.
LSU Campus
All classes and activities scheduled for Tuesday are cancelled, except for courses in the LSU Online program, which will proceed as scheduled. The LSU closure includes the University Laboratory School, the LSU Early Childhood Education Laboratory Preschool, and the Law Center. The Vet School will communicate separately with its students and employees about hospitals and academic operations.
Please check the official website of LSU Athletics for information on any LSU athletic events scheduled for Tuesday.
LSU Residence Halls, on-campus apartments, and Dining Halls will remain open as normal but will update their websites and social media accounts if anything changes. For information on LSU bus service for Tuesday, visit the LSU Parking & Transportation Services website or social media accounts.
LSU is planning to reopen as normal on Wednesday, January 17, but please watch email, LSU.edu, @LSU social media channels, and LSU emergency text messaging in case that changes. Those who have not signed up for emergency text messages should do so at myLSU by clicking on “Personal Preferences” and “Emergency Contacts.” The LSU Office of Emergency Preparedness, or OEP, will be closely monitoring this situation and will provide any additional information as necessary.
