Gretchen Delcambre to head LSU Vet Med outreach and admissions

Gretchen Henry Delcambre, DVM (LSU 2009), will join the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine as director of veterinary outreach and admissions in July 2022.

Dr. Delcambre served as director and then assistant dean of veterinary admissions for the past five years at the Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, where she oversaw admissions, combined and special degree programs, and professional advising. 

“Gretchen brings a tremendous wealth of knowledge and experience regarding veterinary admissions to our school.  I am excited to have her join our team and know she will be a valuable asset to our students,” said Senior Associate Dean for Student Success and Professor of Medical Oncology Bonnie Boudreaux, DVM, DACVIM.

As a key member of the Admissions and Student Success team, Dr. Delcambre will be responsible for the leadership, vision, and administrative oversight of the LSU Vet Med Admissions program and the outreach and recruitment of prospective veterinary students.

"It brings me great excitement to be part of LSU Vet Med once again. I am looking forward to engaging with the students, faculty, and staff in developing and implementing inclusive admissions practices and programs to meet the goals our community and our profession," she said.

Dr. Delcambre will implement the recruitment efforts of veterinary students in support of strategic efforts, including diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging with a focus on increasing the diversity of the school’s applicant pool. She will also provide general academic and career counseling to students.

In addition to her Admissions leadership, she also served as an assistant professor at CSU, teaching histology, veterinary neurobiology, and other semester-long courses.

Dr. Delcambre received her DVM from LSU School of Veterinary Medicine, her MS from University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine, and her BS from LSU.

She has published in the Journal of Veterinary Diagnostic Investigation, Equine Veterinary Journal, PeerJ, PLoS One, and Analyst scientific journals.

A member of the American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges Admissions and Recruiting Committee, Dr. Delcambre has served as an advisor to AAVMC’s Holistic Admissions Project, among numerous other professional activities and affiliations.
