About TIAMS

The Theoretical Institute for Advanced Mathematics and Science (TIAMS) is a research institute based at Louisiana State University and affiliated with the LSU College of Science. It creates sustained intellectual communities around fundamental questions in mathematics, physics, computation, chemistry, and related sciences.

TIAMS programs bring together researchers from different fields and institutions for concentrated periods of work. Long-term visitors, postdoctoral researchers, faculty, graduate students, and undergraduates meet through tutorials, workshops, seminars, working groups, public lectures, and informal collaboration.

The institute has a particular interest in the moments when a scientific problem needs new mathematics, or when an existing mathematical idea has not yet found the scientific problem it can transform. AI-assisted mathematical translation gives researchers a powerful new way to identify those connections quickly and test them with experts from both sides.

TIAMS is building a national and international research community from its home in Baton Rouge. LSU provides the physical setting, scientific community, and institutional base. Programs are designed for researchers wherever they work.
