A Research Experience for Undergraduates

Smart Polymer Composite Materials and Structures is a Research Experience for Undergraduates (Smart REU) project.  Faculty from the departments of chemistry, mechanical engineering and civil engineering will mentor students. We especially seek applications from women and groups traditionally underrepresented in STEM disciplines. 

Traditional REU Elements (for local participants):

  • Research projects will be conducted in-person
  • Virtual professional development workshops and seminars
  • Virtual summer conference 

Virtual REU Elements:

  • Research project options are exclusively remote with mentoring by faculty
  • Virtual professional development workshops and seminar
  • Virtual summer conference 
Requirements Benefits
U.S. citizen/permanent resident $6,000 stipend
Enrolled in an undergraduate program at a two- or four-year institution Professional development workshops
Cumulative GPA of at least 3.00 Opportunity to attend virtual summer conference
Desire to pursue a career in research and/or graduate school in your major
