LGS Completes Digitization of 1983 Gulf Coast Regional Cross-Sections
February 11, 2026

As part of the 2024–2025 STATEMAP project, jointly funded by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and the State of Louisiana, Akinbobola Akintomide, a geologist at the Louisiana Geological Survey (LGS), has completed the digitization of a foundational regional cross-section folio: Bebout and Gutiérrez (1983), Regional Cross-Sections of the Louisiana Gulf Coast (Eastern Part), Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Louisiana Geological Survey, Folio Series No. 6, 10 p.
Originally published more than 40 years ago, this folio has long served as a critical reference for understanding the subsurface geology of Louisiana’s Gulf Coast. The digitization effort preserves this important work in a modern format, improving accessibility for researchers, industry professionals, educators, and public agencies.
By converting these cross sections into digital form, LGS ensures that this valuable geologic resource remains available to support research, exploration, and informed decision-making across the state.
The digitized cross sections and accompanying technical report are now available for download on the LGS website.
