Mission Statement

The mission of the UWP is to help prepare students for the 21st century to become good communicators, thinkers and researchers. Good writing is grounded in good thinking skills. If students cannot learn to first pose a good, focused question (inquire), parse out and analyze the various perspectives, research an issue, and then argue for a position using the correct genre and the appropriate conventions of educated prose, then a university has not really educated a student. The UWP begins this process with the student through its first- and second-year writing courses.
