Open Position: Operations Coordinator (R00058868)

The Craft and Hawkins Department of Petroleum Engineering is one of the leading petroleum engineering departments in the US, and offers BS, MS and PhD degrees. External funding for ongoing research includes support from state, federal and industry sources. Departmental resources to support this position include 

the Petroleum Engineering Research Teaching and Training Laboratory, the Chevron Reservoir Characterization Laboratory, and a variety of other experimental and computational laboratories.

Overview of Job Duties:

The incumbent in this position will serve as the lab operations coordinator for a variety of undergraduate lab courses, purchase supplies, maintain equipment, and set up experiments. Assist with a variety of duties in numerous research labs in Patrick F Taylor Hall (PFTH) and oversee the PetE inventory process within PFTH.  

Job Description:

-   Oversee teaching laboratory operations, which may include PETE 2034, PETE 4058, PETE 4059, or others. Includes providing guidance to students during labs, lab-report grading, and other course coordination as necessary. Acts as the primary resource to managers and employees in the organization. Ensure safe operation of the labs, including the creation of safety procedure documentation.

-   Oversee PetE inventory process within PFTH, which includes purchasing and stocking supplies for the teaching labs. Plays a key role in the assistance of implementing projects and programs in regard to the development and fabrication or setup of new experiments. Participate in efforts to improve capabilities, process improvement and technology projects.

-   Exhibits technical and operational proficiency in regard to maintaining equipment. Assist with assembly, maintenance, and operation of equipment in PFTH research labs.

Minimum Qualifications:

B.S. in Petroleum Engineering or related field. 3 or more years of experience, specifically hands-on experience in a laboratory or the field, particularly with petrophysics or drilling/completions fluids.

Preferred Qualifications:

M.S. in Petroleum Engineering or related field. 5 or more years of experience after receiving the master's degree. Specifically, the dept prefers hands-on experience in a laboratory or the field, particularly with petrophysics or drilling/completions fluids and experience designing and conducting laboratory experiments; knowledge of instrumentation; experience in education or professional training.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated hands-on laboratory or industrial experience. An offer of employment is contingent upon a satisfactory pre-employment background check.
