Admission Requirements

Master of Science - Construction Management (LSU Campus and LSU Online)

 Admission into the MSCM programs require:

  • An earned Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) from an accredited college or university in construction related degree. Graduates of curricula outside these program areas may be required to satisfy program prerequisite before full admission into the program. 

  • A Graduate Record Examination (GRE) score of 300 or better. All applicants for admission to the CM and Engineering Science Graduate Programs are required to present satisfactory scores on the aptitude portion (quantitative plus verbal sections) of the GRE before admission can be granted. 

    • Exception:  The GRE requirement is waived for applicants only if the applicant has an undergraduate degree in construction management, engineering, or architecture from a US accredited program (i.e. ACCE, ABET, etc.) AND has more than 3 years of managerial construction experience. A resume must be submitted that details this experience along with contact information for verification purposes.

  • An undergraduate grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale).  Conditional (probationary) acceptance can be granted with a 2.75 GPA; however, these students must maintain a GPA of 3.0 during the first semester to gain full acceptance into the program. In addition, they must also satisfy the Graduate School for satisfactory progress.  If they cannot, they will be dropped from the program.

    • Applicants that do not meet the acceptable undergraduate minimum required GPA of 2.75 may request to have their application considered if the following conditions are met:

English Proficiency Requirements

For international students from countries whose native language is not English, the following requirements are in addition to other general admission criteria:

  • TOEFL score: minimum 550 Paper Based Test, 213 Computer Based Test, 79 Internet Based Test (no component less than 15 if Internet-based). If submitting a score from the International English Language Testing System (IELTS): A minimum score of 6.2 or higher is required.

  • If the international student did not earn at least a four-year baccalaureate degree at a U.S. institution of higher learning or test results indicate a deficiency in English, the program requires the student to be registered for appropriate English language courses. International graduate assistants (teaching, service, or research) must complete ENGL 1051 during their first semester unless a waiver is granted as a result of interview with the English Department. Repeated registration of such courses may be required until the student can demonstrate sufficient proficiency in English.
