Wellbeing

Wellbeing within the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine is being taken seriously. Our Strategic Plan includes development of a Wellness Committee comprising staff, students and faculty will be formed to develop and support wellness programs for the SVM community. Work has already begun with Suicide Prevention Training (Question, Persuade, Refer Gatekeeper Training) provided to student, staff and faculty each month. Outreach to the local and regional veterinary community through Continuing Education on topics including wellbeing and suicide prevention has been offered in the last year, is scheduled in November. Resources are available both in house and within the veterinary community at large and from other Veterinary Mental Health Professionals. The student Wellbeing Committee has been busy this year, scheduling regular wellbeing activities including activities related to nutrition, fitness and mental health. With their support, we have conducted 3 QPR (Question, Persuade, and Refer) suicide prevention trainings for students so far this semester with more scheduled. Wellness week is scheduled for October 21-25. A plan is also in process to regularly reach out to our alumni in an attempt to connect each other and create an awareness of the available resources both locally, regionally and nationally.

In order to make sure that we are responding effectively to the needs of our students, faculty, staff and alumni, we need your help. The following link will take you to a survey about your perception of needs relative to wellbeing. The survey will take approximately 15 minutes of your time. It is our hope that your answers will better inform our future plans for programming and outreach surrounding wellbeing in the SVM and the Veterinary Profession at large.
