Phase II - Clinical Training
The LSU Vet Med curriculum is divided into Phase I and Phase II. Subsequent to the Phase I didactic curriculum, the Phase II clinical training begins in the Spring Semester of Year 3 and consists of rotations in our Veterinary Teaching Hospital.
Phase II students choose one of the following focus areas to determine which block rotations are taken during Phase II.
- Small Animal (canine/feline)
- Mixed Animal (canine/feline, equine, food animal, exotics)
- Equine
- Food Animal (bovine, caprine, ovine, porcine, etc.)
- Zoological Medicine/Exotic (wildlife, zoological, companion exotics)
- Public Practice (public health, research, education, research, laboratory animal, etc.)
Clinical rotations or "blocks" are typically 2 weeks in duration. A maximum of 6 blocks of externship/out-rotations can be taken for any area of focus. The tabs below describe the required blocks for each specific focus area.
Students choose a focus area after Year 2 of the program.
