Hoffman publishes on Spanish America

Professor Emeritus Paul Hoffman, a leading scholar of the Spanish colonial presence in the Americas including Louisiana, has important recent and upcoming publications. His article “A Confusion of Institutions: Spanish law and Practice in a Francophone Colony, Louisiana, 1763-circa 1798,” appeared in Tulane European and Civil Law Forum 31/32 (2017): 1-20, and will be included in a book, Legal Traditions in Louisiana and the Floridas, 1763-1848, ed. Sean Donlan, forthcoming. 

“The Spanish Enlightenment and Colonial Louisiana / La Ilustración española y la Luisiana Colonial,” appeared in Recovered Memories; Spain, New Orleans and the Support of the American Revolution / Memorias Recobradas; España, Nueva Orleans y la Ayuda a la Revolución Norteamericana, ed. José Manuel Guerro Acosta (New Orleans and Bilbao: Louisiana State Museum, Iberdrola and Avangrid, 2018), 99-111. The volume is the bi-lingual catalog for the exhibit of the same name at the Louisiana State Museum’s Cabildo.
