Spanish, New Course in High Schools in China (from La Vanguardia)
The Spanish Royal Academy (RAE) wants to participate in the explosion of Spanish that will came in the near future in China. The Academy has inaugurated its first Center for the Study of the Spanish Language at the University of Shanghai. This is the result of the incorporation of Spanish as part of the curriculum in the Chinese high School.
“We know of the unlimited possibilities that the new curricular plan opens for the teaching of Spanish in China, and we want to contribute to that commendable and ambitious project,” said Dario Villanueva, The President of the Spanish Royal Academy at the inauguration of the Center. Those were the words of the President of one of the most representative institutions of the Spanish Language on the recent decision of Chinese authorities to include Spanish among the optional second language possibilities in high school together with English, Russian and Japanese.
