The Department of Mechanical & Industrial Engineering is a thriving hub of cutting-edge research and teaching. With 35 Faculty Members and approximately 110 Graduate Students (inclusive of Engineering Sciences Graduate Students who work with MIE Faculty), the Department conducts extensive research, publishes in top-tier high-impact academic journals, competes for major research funding, and boasts national titles.
Since the end of the Nineteenth Century, the Department has contributed to Louisiana's economy by solving problems, generating innovations, and training future Mechanical and Industrial Engineers to make meaningful contributions in today's workforce.

Sid Fuchs Seminars


ME alumnus Mr. Sidney E. Fuchs (BSME 1986; MSME 1987), Member and Chair Emeritus of the MIE Board of Advisors and the ME Industry Advisory Committee, sponsors the Departmental seminar series, which bears his name. The Sidney E. Fuchs Seminar Series brings to campus prominent lecturers from academia, industry, business and government for the benefit of MIE students and faculty and the LSU community in general.
