Louisiana State University to Host 2026 Louisiana Aspiring Educator Summer Academy

BATON ROUGE, LA – Louisiana State University will host 100 high school students enrolled in the Louisiana Pre-Educator Pathway for the Louisiana Aspiring Educator Summer Academy from July 13-17, 2026.
Developed by the Louisiana Department of Education and staffed by a team of advisors
and coaches from around the state, the Aspiring Educator Summer Academy will bring
together 100 aspiring educators from around the state for a high-energy, professional
leadership experience that propels them on their pathway to becoming highly effective
educators in Louisiana.
School systems that offer the Louisiana Pre-Educator Pathway are eligible to register
one aspiring educator per high school and five alternate students to attend the Summer
Academy. An ideal academy participant is a rising 10th, 11th or 12th grade student
previously enrolled or currently registered in at least one of the Louisiana Pre-Educator
Pathway courses who is determined to make a positive impact in the field of education
in Louisiana. Students should possess dispositions, interests and characteristics
of effective educators, including but not limited to:
- Being open-minded, compassionate, respectful and service-oriented
- Having an interest in community, state and national service
- Possessing a desire to serve children and the community through improving outcomes for all children
- Enjoying collaborative activities
- Sharing a passion for a certain topic or content area
- Developing strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Exploring skills and strategies of an effective 21st century educator
The academy staff will be made up of up to 30 exceptional individuals who represent different parts of the Louisiana educator pipeline. Academy staff includes:
- 10 teachers, professors and other practicing educators who will serve as Advisors throughout the week
- 20 collegiate student leaders enrolled in education who will lead and serve as Coaches to smaller cohorts of academy participants
