From Pupil to Professional: Educators Rising Regional Conference at LSU Inspires Next Generation of Teachers

February 23, 2026

BATON ROUGE, LA — Educators Rising LSU held the first ever Educators Rising Regional Conference at LSU on January 28, 2026. Created and organized by Lutrill & Pearl Payne School of Education's Allie Boquet, PhD, the conference brought more than 100 high school students enrolled in a pre-educator pathway to Louisiana's flagship university to explore the next steps of entering the teaching profession.

The day started with a welcome from LSU College of Human Sciences & Education Dean Roland Mitchell, PhD, followed by a keynote address given by Caitlyn Robinson, LSU Lutrill & Pearl Payne School of Education alumna, Early Childhood Special Education Coordinator for the Louisiana Department of Education and co-founder of SpedTacular Kids and Central Inclusive League. Then, students attended breakout sessions led by LSU students, faculty and alumni; session topics included "Why Choose LSU?," "Managing Yourself Before Managing a Classroom," "The Value of an LSU Teaching Degree," and "Pathways to the Profession: LSU Teacher Prep Programs." Students then had the opportunity to network with education faculty and students before ending the day in Tiger Stadium.
