LSU Early Childhood Education Laboratory Preschool Celebrates Read Across America

BATON ROUGE, LALSU Early Childhood Education Laboratory Preschool (ECELP) celebrated Read Across America with a special story time visit from Board of Regents board members Christy Reeves and Collis Temple III, Board of Regents Commissioner of Higher Education Kim Hunter Reed, PhD, and LSU College of Human Sciences & Education Dean Roland Mitchell, PhD.

"Read Across America Day with the Louisiana Board of Regents, CHSE Ambassadors and Dean Mitchell showcases the strength of collaborative partnerships and the shared responsibility we hold in nurturing confident, capable young learners," Kamille Watson, MEd, ECELP director, said. "As a model demonstration school, ECELP welcomes these partnerships that strengthen our mission and enrich our students' experiences."

ECELP is a Reggio Emilia-inspired research facility within the LSU Lutrill & Pearl Payne School of Education and is aligned with undergraduate and graduate programs in Early Childhood Education. ECELP serves as a laboratory for the generation of cutting-edge research in the areas of child development and education. It also serves as a training site for undergraduate and graduate students as a model demonstration site within the community. 

Launched in 1998 by the National Education Association, Read Across America is the nation’s largest celebration of reading. This year-round program focuses on motivating children and teens to read through events, partnerships and reading resources that are about everyone, for everyone. March is recognized as National Reading Month, and March 2 is celebrated as Read Across America Day, also the birthday of Dr. Seuss.

The Early Childhood Education Laboratory Preschool (ECELP) is a Reggio Emilia - inspired research facility within LSU College of Human Sciences & Education and is aligned with the university’s undergraduate and graduate programs in Early Childhood Education. The ECELP is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children, which is the leading early childhood professional organization in the nation. The ECELP serves as a laboratory for the generation of cutting-edge research in the areas of child development and education. It also serves as a training site for undergraduate and graduate students as a model demonstration site within the community. Through its support of research and teaching, the ECELP generates and disseminates knowledge about best practices in early childhood education to support children’s development and learning.
