About LSU ICS
The primary goal for LSU ICS is to prepare students for independent living, provide
competitive employment competencies, and build interpersonal communication skills
that are personalized to their own preferences, interests, goals, and successes.
The mixed/hybrid residential postsecondary education program consists of four semesters
of specially designed coursework. Admitted students complete a mix of audited traditional
and individualized/ICS courses that they have a part in choosing. Person-centered
planning is provided by peer mentors from colleges across the university and program
staff. Program participants are housed in multi-bedroom apartments with an independent
living assistant (degree-seeking student) in each unit.
Future ICS students need to complete an electronic portfolio based on Higher Education
Opportunity Act admissions requirements. Application components include a cover letter,
resume, letters of recommendation, skills checklist ratings, and listing of employment
experiences. Potential ICS students will also complete a formal interview process
that may involve additional life and work skills assessments. Costs for the federally
approved program are approximately $43,000 annually. Federal, state, and local financial
support may be available to interested applicants.
The ICS program is administered through the College of Human Sciences & Education.
