How Workday Affects You

May 25, 2016

This week’s project update provides an introduction to Workday’s multi-dimensional accounting and financial structure. This is referred to as the Financial Data Model, or FDM.

The nine-digit legacy account number will be replaced by data elements (worktags) that will be attached to financial transactions. These worktags represent the various dimensions (i.e., cost center, fund, function, etc.) that are currently built into the legacy account number.

Recognizing the significance of this change for the campus community, the project team designed the Financial Data Model with a goal of minimizing data entry by end users while providing the information necessary to satisfy LSU’s reporting requirements.

Additionally, a translation tool has been developed to facilitate the transition of data contained in the current Chart of Accounts to Workday’s Financial Data Model. This tool is accessible with myLSU credentials under Financial Services, FDM Translation.  We encourage you to visit the translation tool, as well as the easily accessible online resources, which have been specifically designed to help users become comfortable with the FDM.  These resources are available at www.lsu.edu/workday/finance_training.php.

If you are new to Workday, an overview video is also available on the site’s home page or by clicking uiswcmsweb.prod.lsu.edu/training/employee/index.html.

We look forward to working with you as we make this transition together. If you have any questions, please feel free to use the feedback portion of the website at http://www.lsu.edu/wdfeedback and one of our team members will get back with you soon, typically within the next day.

Have a great Workday!
