Placement Exam Options for Incoming Freshmen

Placement exam information will be posted here soon for Spring 2021 Incoming Freshmen. Follow-up with otes@lsu.edu for additional information.

September 8, 2020 was the last day that fall 2020 incoming freshmen could take placement exams, please see below for additional information.

  • All incoming freshmen have the ability to take these placement exams until the last day to add classes of their first semester. After the last day to add classes, students are no longer considered incoming freshmen and must follow the procedure for continuing students.
  • Students who take a placement exam for a specific subject as an incoming freshmen, are not eligible to take credit by examination for the same subject as a continuing student.

Exam Details

 

Incoming freshmen may take placement exams only once through either ProctorU or On Campus:  

Incoming freshmen who wish to take their placement exams before arriving to LSU for the Spring 2020 Semester may take their placement exams via ProctorU. There is a $15.00 fee per exam and students may take each placement exam only once. Please see the information below regarding the process.

1. Create a student account with ProctorU.

  • Go to the ProctorU Portal and select “Sign Up.” Your institution will be pre-populated as “Louisiana State University at Baton Rouge.”
  • Select the Test-Taker button
  • Create profile

2. Schedule your placement exam.

There is a $15.00 fee per exam and students may take each placement exam only once. Please email otes@lsu.edu with the exam you wish to take:

  • Algebra
  • Calculus
  • French
  • German
  • Latin
  • Spanish
  • Trigonometry
  • Chemistry

3. Prepare for the Placement Exam in ProctorU

  • Please refer to the ProctorU Test Taking Student Guide for detailed information on preparing to take your placement exam within ProctorU.
  • Students need to ensure their computer equipment works and they have downloaded the ProctorU extension.
  • For additional information about taking an exam in ProctorU please review to the ProctorU Student Walkthrough video.

4. Take the Placement Exam in ProctorU

  • There are several steps students will need to complete when taking an exam in ProctorU. For additional information about what to expect on the day of your placement exam please refer to the ProctorU Exam Day resource.
  • Once you have started your ProctorU remote exam session and have completed the academic integrity security scan students will be prompted to launch the web browsers for their exam.
  • All placement exams (except for Spanish) will be launched in the Questionmark software. Students then will log in by clicking “Log in with my organization credentials” and use their LSU username and password to sign-in.

5. Obtain Placement Exam Score

  • After you take the placement exam in ProctorU, you will see your score. Your score will also be processed by the Office of Testing and Evaluation Services (OTES) within three business days. If a satisfactory score is achieved, the course credit will be applied to your student record.

6. Course Scheduling

  • For questions related to course scheduling, please reach out to your college academic advisor. To contact your academic advisor, please use the Navigate Student app or the LSU Navigate Website.

Incoming freshmen who wish to take their placement exams on campus will schedule for their exam(s) using RegisterBlast. There is no cost for students to take placement exams on campus, however students may take each placement exam only once. Please see the information below regarding the process.

1. Sign into RegisterBlast

  • Go to LSU RegisterBlast page
  • Click the "Sign In" button at the top right of the page, this will allow you to sign in using myLSU Single Sign On
  • Log into myLSU with your LSU username and password
  • Below is the full on campus placement exam schedule

2. Register for Placement Exam

Please fill out the Exam Registration Page with the following details:

  • Choose Group: select "Placement Exams
  • Choose an Exam: select the exam you would like to take
  • Exam Description: review details and requirements for your exam
  • Choose a Date/Time: select from the available dates/times
  • Who is taking this exam?: Enter your contact information, please use your LSU email
  • Exam Guideline Acknowledgement: check box to agree to the exam guidelines

Once you have completed the Exam Registration Page, click "Add to Cart"

3. Review Exam Cart and Complete Registration

  • If you wish to an additional placement exam, click on the "Add Another Exam" button
  • Once you have added all the exams you wish to take, review your exam selection final time
  • Finish the registration process by clicking "Complete Registration". No vouchers or promo codes are required
  • Once you have completed registration, you will receive an email confirmation with the details for your placement exam(s)
